Austin Monthly's COOL ISSUE -- Brand New ETSY STORE.

We here at Liquid Overhead were always waaay too busy listening to records in a dark room all by ourselves or doodling in our notebooks drawing the same star-trek pictures over and over again to worry about who was sitting at the cool or uncool lunch table. But then here comes AUSTIN MONTHLY with the new December 2009 Issue, the 'Cool Issue' and lo and behold, our own Jaime Cervantes is featured inside. Who knew?

We like to let the work of Mr. Cervantes speak for itself, BUT, if you want to check out more of the story on Jaime and the other four talented Austin Poster Artists featured in the article set that tasty michelada down & run to the newstand already.

TRANS PECOS FESTIVAL OF MUSIC AND LOVE, 2009

Calling all righteous, bearded dudes and scantily clad hippie chicks, or vice-versa. As our newest poster attests, it's El Cosmico's Music Fest time again in the bad, beautiful lands of Far West Texas, so head out west to Marfa T.X., collapse yourself around a muscular, sweat-drenched, snow-white steed, or just pull up a lawn chair while stars shoot through the outer reaches, sip that first michelada, & enjoy the amazing space and musical performances that are Liz Lambert's TRANS PECOS FEST OF MUSIC AND LOVE. October 9th and 10th. They bring the music -- you bring the scantily-clad enthusiasm.

Here Come the Vikings: Austin's own HOUSE OF SONGS.

Last night marked the debut of one of Austin's newest, and possibly most exciting new musical ventures -- the launch party of Austin's own HOUSE OF SONGS. We were happy and proud to have L.O's own Jaime Cervantes tapped to create the logo (see left) as well as having numerous of Mr. Cervantes iconic music prints lining the walls of the beautiful new musicians-in-residence location.

The HOUSE OF SONGS is a joint venture/collaboration between Danish musicians and songwriters with their Texan/American counterparts -- with the goal of ongoing artistic collaboration & creation. Housed in a cool and lovely old home in south Austin, tricked out with Gibson guitars, Baldwin piano, WiFi, recording equipment, bicycles, all mod (not to mention stylish) cons as well as lovely, relaxing spaces inside and out, the purpose of THE HOUSE OF SONGS is to allow for creative residencies on the part of bands, songwriters and musicians from Scandinavia to pair up with American counterparts and compose, construct, collaborate, suggest, hum-along, destroy, set on fire, re-write, laugh at, set on fire again & ultimately create new works of songwriting and musicial genius for the rest of us to sit in awe of.

Residencies are set to be 9-12 days long for the various artists, with the final fruits of their labors to be played out at various showcases around Austin -- the first of which will occur THIS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8TH, AT THREADGILL'S SOUTH BEERGARDEN. Show begins at 9 pm. Danish songbirds & rockers of LEAVING A SMALL TOWN will be in attendance, as well as incredibly talented singer-songwriter man-about-the-globe POUL KREBS. Other triple-A list Austin songwriters & musicians will also surely take the stage.

To paraphrase a new corporate ad-slogan the men in suits did not create this world. Here at Liquid Overhead, we're not exactly sure what the men-in-suits created, except more gross-national-product, but we do know the ladies & gents in artist's threads, with guitars & mics in hand, are busy saving the world one song at a time, so be sure to come to Threadgill's thursday eve to participate in the ongoing revolution.

Artists from Austin's first HOUSE OF SONGS residency - LEAVING A SMALL TOWN and POUL KREBS to play Thursday eve, Oct. 8th starting at 9pm with other stellar members of the Austin music scene. Come see what's so great about the Danes anyway, as the world gets smaller and smaller & Austin grows larger and larger as an international artistic focal point.

Hearts, Flowers, Really Sharp Knives, ETC

It's that time again folks- when all shall be buried, surrounded, maybe even smothered & covered with hearts & flowers, or hopefully big, fat, love-sexy balloons from your local Harry Butts' Grocers. But regardless of whether your current relationship is on the rise, fall, slipping on the sharp rocks of indecision, or plunged into the inevitable abyss of despair, there's always SOMETHING to celebrate, so get out there and buy yourself or your current sweet one a choke-load of chocolates, a fistful of flowers, a bodacious bevy of silvery balloons, and show you care already.

Nothing else says spring, of course, and love, and reasons to love, of course, better than three birds tweeting - chests about to bust with love: for the world, the sky, and for one another -- so while you're at it, consider the new YO LA TENGO posters by our very own love-sexy poster artist, Mister Jaime Cervantes, featured above:

Available, as always, through our ETSY store at http://www.etsy.com/shop/liquidoverhead.

Happy Birthday Roky Erickson

Hi, How are you. For lack of anything better to do in this blistering heat we've decided to join the rest of the world -- hiding out in the dark, cold coffee in hand, blinking into the void -- with only the twinkling light of the monitor to guide us. Yes, folks, it's true: we here down in the darkest, dungeon-like sweatshops of Liquid Overhead have started a BLOG, to feature new work done by Overhead, as well as the artists we love to work with. Happily enough, we get to start off with our newest work -- a new print for the incomparable Roky Erickson. We were thrilled to commemorate with a new poster by Jaime Cervantes, pictured above. More from the Roky collection, from the recent Ice Cream Social, as well as the 2009 West Coast NIGHT OF THE VAMPIRE tour appear both above and below.

And in the meantime, stay cool, stay strong,
and Peace & Love & Happy Birthdays all around--

Love,
Liquid Overhead.

Congrats to the SECRETARY.

Never underestimate the office staff. When not busy typing, filing, or cheerfully pouring coffee, our humble office assistant has been up to nefarious activities which have resulted in this: Heidi-Annette Hall's latest screenplay SPREAD THE ALARM has now made it to the semi-finals of Gordy Hoffman's Bluecat Screenplay competition, being in the top 18 out of nearly 4000 entries...ALARM has also made it to top 13 with the Austin Film Festival (lucky number), and is currently under consideration for Sundance's 2010 Screenwriter's Lab. ALARM is currently represented by Indie producer Tommy Pallotta. Who knew?
