Here Come the Vikings: Austin's own HOUSE OF SONGS.

Last night marked the debut of one of Austin's newest, and possibly most exciting new musical ventures -- the launch party of Austin's own HOUSE OF SONGS. We were happy and proud to have L.O's own Jaime Cervantes tapped to create the logo (see left) as well as having numerous of Mr. Cervantes iconic music prints lining the walls of the beautiful new musicians-in-residence location.

The HOUSE OF SONGS is a joint venture/collaboration between Danish musicians and songwriters with their Texan/American counterparts -- with the goal of ongoing artistic collaboration & creation. Housed in a cool and lovely old home in south Austin, tricked out with Gibson guitars, Baldwin piano, WiFi, recording equipment, bicycles, all mod (not to mention stylish) cons as well as lovely, relaxing spaces inside and out, the purpose of THE HOUSE OF SONGS is to allow for creative residencies on the part of bands, songwriters and musicians from Scandinavia to pair up with American counterparts and compose, construct, collaborate, suggest, hum-along, destroy, set on fire, re-write, laugh at, set on fire again & ultimately create new works of songwriting and musicial genius for the rest of us to sit in awe of.

Residencies are set to be 9-12 days long for the various artists, with the final fruits of their labors to be played out at various showcases around Austin -- the first of which will occur THIS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8TH, AT THREADGILL'S SOUTH BEERGARDEN. Show begins at 9 pm. Danish songbirds & rockers of LEAVING A SMALL TOWN will be in attendance, as well as incredibly talented singer-songwriter man-about-the-globe POUL KREBS. Other triple-A list Austin songwriters & musicians will also surely take the stage.

To paraphrase a new corporate ad-slogan the men in suits did not create this world. Here at Liquid Overhead, we're not exactly sure what the men-in-suits created, except more gross-national-product, but we do know the ladies & gents in artist's threads, with guitars & mics in hand, are busy saving the world one song at a time, so be sure to come to Threadgill's thursday eve to participate in the ongoing revolution.
